Geoff Wren, Soft FM Operations Manager, went Back to the Floor as a Cleaning Operative on one of his FM sites in Hartlepool. Robertson Facilities Management recently started this contract on 1st May, which involved a TUPE transfer of existing staff. It was a fantastic opportunity to bond with the team and gain an understanding of their strengths and weaknesses so that Geoff can assist them with training, development, and industry best practice.

As the team start at around 4:30am, they are often working in areas of the building alone or in their small team of four, so they also really enjoyed having Geoff onsite to see first-hand how dedicated they are and understand their workload.  Staff described it as ‘refreshing’ as it was not something they have been involved in before with their previous employer.

Geoff said, “After a busy morning and to thank them for letting me get involved, it was great to catch up over a well-deserved coffee and bacon roll. The feedback from the team has been fantastic, I also really enjoyed the experience. We have identified additional equipment which will help the team to clean quicker and more efficiently. All in all a really positive experience and I welcome the opportunity to do this again in the future!”.

They have really good ideas and being on site with them as helped me to understand how these ideas would be put into practice.
