World FM Day is a fantastic way to raise awareness of the facilities management function and the vital role it has to play within our clients’ organisations. This year’s theme is ‘enabling positive experiences’ - this is a pertinent topic within FM, as the Stoddard Review revealed that an effective workplace can improve business productivity.

As part of our celebrations we sent a selection of employees from the Gateshead and Stirling offices to do different facilities management jobs, as part of our ongoing push to enable positive experiences in the workplace.

‘Back to the Floor’ is an opportunity to learn more about FM at the frontline, by spending time with staff who are delivering these services on a day-to-day basis.

Development Director, Ben Smith worked as a Grounds Maintenance Operative and Operations Director, Graeme Cameron, completed work as a Maintenance Engineer.

Other Robertson FM office-based employees, were cleaners, receptionists, and community leisure attendants for the day.

We are always looking at ways to help raise awareness of the facilities management sector, and World FM Day provides a great platform.

I truly understand the value of these types of activities. When I first started with Robertson Facilities Management, on one particularly wet and cold day, I went Back to the Floor as a janitor on one of our educational contracts. It enabled me to see first-hand the impact our service has on enabling positive experiences for all stakeholders. This is made possible by the hard work and support of our dedicated teams.

We are using World FM Day as a pilot for Back to the Floor, which we hope to relaunch for all staff later in the year and I look forward to getting involved – it enables us to gain an even greater understanding of the sector, helping us to deliver even greater results.
