The partnership will offer pupils a series of unique opportunities, including work placements, site visits, employability skills sessions and competitions.

It is one of a series of partnerships with schools in the communities in which we operate, including Elgin Academy, Bucksburn Academy in Aberdeen, Baldragon Academy in Dundee, and Walker Technology College in Newcastle.

Providing inspiration and activities

We have carried out a variety of activities at Bannockburn High School, including assembly presentations, CV reviews, mock interviews, site visits, work experience placements, paid summer intern schemes, career ‘speed-dating’ and ‘teaching the teachers’.

Our work with teachers involves lunch & learn activities to provide hands-on experience in the built environment industry that can be shared with their students.

We have also taken part in careers events to discuss ambition, career aspirations and health & wellbeing. This has involved sharing the Robertson values, details of the career paths that Robertson staff have taken, and also to highlight the work ethic required and the challenges individuals can face in pursuing a career.

We also sponsor the school’s annual awards ceremony, which in turn has made funding available for activities such as university visits, sports and extra-curricular trips, ensuring that these can be offered on an inclusive basis to all pupils.

Part of our Young People Strategy

Our partnership with schools is part of our wider Young People Strategy.

We plan our workforce long term, building a resource pipeline to make sure we have the right people with the right skills at the right time. Youth employment plays a big part in that, which is one of the reasons – together with social inclusion and community benefits – why we aim to be the market leader in providing career opportunities to school leavers, apprentices and graduates.

In recognition of our commitment to the training and development of young people, we have been awarded the prestigious Investors in Young People Silver Accreditation.
